NSD1214 How to upgrade One Time Password Server 1.6 or 2.0 to 3.0
Fact
Nordic Edge One Time Password Server versions 1.6, 2.0, 3.0
Situation
Upgrading to One Time Password Server 3.0
Solution
Before you upgrade:
License System
The License configuration object includes configuration options and license information. The license system for the OTP Server version 3 is new and not compatible with version 2 which means that in order to upgrade you need new license files. Contact Nordic Edge Sales for how the license can be upgraded.
The new license system controls how many unique user identities that has been used and checks this against the total number of license that has been registered. New users that are above the limit of the registered user limit won’t be able to authenticate by the OTP Server. Alerts can be configured to notify administrators that the amount of user license is very close to the limit of registered users. This will give organizations the opportunity to buy more licenses.
The new licenses system also supports multiple license files. This means that one file can include a 50 user license and another 100 user which means that the total amount of user license is 150.
The license file must be placed in the license file directory and the file name must end with the extension “.dat”.
Steps to upgrade to version 3.0
If you are installing on the same server where you have your existing OTPServer installation please shut down the current OTPServer.
Start the installation of the One Time Password Server 3.
The One Time Password Server 3.0 is default installed in the folder OTPServer3. That means that you can install it without overwriting your old installation.
During the installation phase you will be asked to add your new One Time Password Server license file, so please make sure you have it ready.
When you have finished the Installation of One Time Password Server 3.0 make sure you shut it down. Open a file explorer like Windows explorer or Apple finder and browse to your old otp.properties from your OTPServer 1.6 or 2.0 installation. Copy that file to the <install dir>/OTPServer3 folder.
Start the One Time Password Server 3.0.
You should now have the same settings as you had in your earlier installation.
Please note, if you imported your old otp.properties from your old One Time Password Server 2.0 please verify that the OATH variable length is set to 6,8
Head's up
Some situations when you also need to manually copy files from your old installation:
1. If you authenticate users in AD or LDAP and get the mobile number from a SQL database please make sure you copy the External Database Handler (ext.GetAttributeFromOtherSQL.class) and the GetAttributeFromOtherSQL.cfg from your old intallaton. See:
NSD1113 How to authenticate users in AD or LDAP and get the mobile number from another SQL database
2. You are running another SMS-Service besides Nordic Edge SMS Gateway. Please copy the files corresponding to your own Gateway configuration to your new One Time Password Server 3 installation.
